On May 15 at the VII Medical Innovation Forum, the Almazov National Medical Research Centre of the Russian Ministry of Health joined the Russian-African Network University consortium. Andrei Rudskoy, Rector of SPbPU, and Evgeny Shlyakhto, General Director of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre signed the document.

Today Almazov NMIC is a national multidisciplinary scientific, clinical and research medical centre. Scientific, educational and clinical spheres of activity are expanding: new scientific units are being opened; seven research institutes are operating, as well as the Institute of Medical Education with 29 chairs. The uniqueness of the Centre lies in the harmonious combination of fundamental and applied research in various fields with the provision of multidisciplinary specialised, high-tech medical care to the population and continuous interdisciplinary training of scientific and medical personnel. The Almazov Centre maintains international relations with foreign medical organisations and universities in many countries of the world.

Unfortunately, in most African countries the state of health care leaves much to be desired. The situation requires international resources to provide not only financial assistance to the national governments of Africa, but also to organise quality training of qualified personnel to provide adequate medical and preventive services to the population of African countries.

«The current signing of the agreement is very important. In addition to industrial, industrial, cultural development and exchange between our countries, health plays a crucial role, especially for Africa. Every mobilisation of capacity, knowledge in education, training of national human resources, especially in the field of medicine, prevention, public health, is momentous. And we hope that RAFU will become another effective tool for expanding effective and mutually beneficial cooperation of the Almazov Centre with the countries and leading universities of the African continent in the field of training and retraining of personnel», — said Rector of SPbPU Andrey Rudskoy.

«Today is one of the most important days for the Almazov Centre — we have become part of the Russian-African University family. I am very grateful to Andrey Ivanovich for this step. This is another step in the development of integration, which is unique in St Petersburg today. I am sure that within the framework of RAFU we will be able to offer such educational programmes to our colleagues from Africa, which will really improve the situation in education, research and medical care. A huge thank you for your trust», Evgeny Shlyakhto Director General of the Almazov NMIc.
