On May 25, 2026, an event dedicated to Africa Day was held at the Intellectual Center – the scientific library of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Arkhangelsk.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on May 25. This day symbolizes the aspiration for unity, freedom, and independence of African peoples.

NArFU currently has 45 students from 18 countries – representing Algeria, Angola, Ghana, Egypt, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Congo, Mauritania, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Togo, the Central African Republic, and South Africa. The students are enrolled in core academic programs and are also learning Russian at the preparatory department.

The event was organized by the Association of Foreign Students of the Arkhangelsk Region. Guests of the evening included Russian and international students and faculty members who showed a keen interest in the culture, traditions, and cuisine of the peoples of the African continent.

The journey through Africa began with a virtual introduction to the continent. Participants learned about the incredible linguistic and cultural diversity, explored iconic historical and tourist sites, sampled dishes from different countries, and viewed traditional costumes. A special segment of the event was dedicated to the historical ties between Africa and Russia.

Students from Ghana introduced guests to traditional "jama" by performing an energetic African song, after which everyone interested could take part in a master class on kizomba, the national dance of Angola. The highlight of the evening was a tasting of traditional African treats prepared by the organizers. Guests were able to enjoy the taste of peanut soup with rice and chicken, donuts, pudding, and aromatic tea.

Africa Day at NArFU once again demonstrated that genuine interest, a warm atmosphere, and a willingness to learn new things bring people together, despite distances and cultural differences.
