On May 25, Africa Day, the IV International Youth Forum "Africa in St. Petersburg: Russia – Africa: Education, Science and Sustainable Development in the 21st Century" was opened at the St. Petersburg State Forestry University named after S.M. Kirov (SPbGLTU) with the support of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.
The moderator of the plenary session of the forum was Alexander Alexandrovich Dobrovolsky, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities.
The plenary session was opened by the Rector of SPbGLTU named after S.M. Kirov, Irina Albertovna Melnichuk.
With a welcoming address from the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov, the Member of the Government of St. Petersburg – Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg Evgeny Dmitrievich Grigoriev spoke.
Among the distinguished guests of the forum, the participants were greeted by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Mali in St. Petersburg, Issa Togo, and the Head of the Project Office of the Russian-African Network University, Alla Lazarevna Mazina.
More than 250 students from various universities of St. Petersburg from 40 African countries and 58 countries worldwide took part in the forum.
The concert program of the forum featured talented students from Tanzania, Somalia, Morocco, Cameroon, Gabon, Madagascar, and Russia, studying at SPbGLTU, the Military Medical Academy, and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
The St. Petersburg State Forestry University named after S.M. Kirov was glad to serve as the venue for the Forum, the purpose of which is to strengthen ties between Russia and African countries, as well as to attract young people to actively participate in the dialogue on global challenges and to search for joint solutions for sustainable development.
