«Professional Communication in Russian for Future Medical Professionals»: How Training Is Conducted in Niamey

An intensive Russian language course for medical students is underway at the Institute of Public Health in Niamey (Republic of Niger). The training is in full swing, and the results are already pleasing the teachers.

On September 9, a working meeting was held with representatives of the academic community of Abdou Moumouni University and the Institute of Public Health. It became an important step toward the development of further cooperation. On the same day, the grand opening of the course took place, which the participants greeted with great interest and enthusiasm.

The second day became a true immersion in the Russian language and culture. The participants took part in practical classes, a unique lesson «Getting Acquainted with Russia», and a master class «My First Dialogue in Russian». Already after the first lesson, many students were able to demonstrate noticeable progress and take their first steps in communicating in Russian. The day's program concluded with an educational block «Getting Acquainted with Russia», which allowed the participants to take a virtual journey across our country and learn more about its culture, traditions, and diversity.

Interest in the project continues to grow: today, 65 people are already taking part in the course, and the number of students is increasing every day. The high motivation, activity, and rapid success of the participants have become the main feature of the first days of training. This project is aimed at strengthening humanitarian and educational ties between Russia and Niger. It creates a solid foundation for mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and the further development of cooperation between the two countries.

In addition to practical lessons, on September 11 the students were told about RUDN University. Many of the young people have already heard about the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba and are preparing to enroll in the preparatory faculty, which is why they work especially hard at mastering the Russian language.
Ahead lies plenty of conversational practice, training in grammar and vocabulary, and an introduction to Russian culture and art!

Classes are held daily for four hours. This intensity allows students not just to memorize rules, but to immerse themselves in a living language environment. The program combines vocabulary, grammar, and conversational practice — everything needed for real communication.

Students are actively mastering new vocabulary and grammatical structures, can already hold a simple conversation in Russian, confidently introduce their family, and talk about their studies at the university.

The result of the first lessons: the students have learned the Russian alphabet, learned to write their names, greet each other and their teachers, ask questions in Russian, and much more. Each student received a branded writing set from the Institute of the Russian Language, and active students are rewarded daily with gifts for their diligence and effort.

The most interesting part is yet to come! The plans include studying medical terminology, role-playing situations close to real medical practice, and plenty of conversational practice to reinforce skills.

This approach allows future medical professionals not only to learn the language but also to prepare for work in a Russian-speaking environment — whether it be studies, an internship, or professional activity.
