«To listen, to understand, and to respect one another»: The Summer Multidisciplinary University opened at RSUH

The Summer Multidisciplinary University started at RSUH with 13 participants from Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia.

The training will take place along the track “Russian–African Cooperation: Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Diplomacy.” Participants will also take part in the master class “Artistic and Engineering Sketching Inspired by the Work of Leonardo da Vinci.”

At the opening, the participants were welcomed by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Pavel Shkarenkov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation Olga Trofimova, and Head of the Department of the Culture of Peace and Democracy of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality of the Institute of Eurasian and Eastern Studies Maria Gordeeva.

On behalf of Rector of RSUH Andrei Loginov, Pavel Shkarenkov congratulated the participants on the opening of the university, emphasizing the importance of international academic cooperation and wishing them success in exploring new horizons.

“Holding the Summer Multidisciplinary University has already become a good tradition for the Russian State University for the Humanities. At our university, you will receive classical liberal arts knowledge that will become the foundation for understanding yourself as a person and will help establish a full-fledged intercultural dialogue. The main purpose of the humanities is to teach us to hear, to understand, and to respect one another,” emphasized Dr. Shkarenkov.

Olga Trofimova and Maria Gordeeva thanked representatives of African countries for their interest in cooperation with RSUH and introduced the participants to the curriculum.

“We implement several important educational projects into this program. One of them is the creation of a digital route across several African countries for Russian tourists. In addition, each of you will develop a cultural brand of your own country, and we will help you to properly formalize it in a brand book. You will be able to use it in your professional activity,” noted Dr. Gordeeva.

In addition to the formal curriculum, excursions have been arranged for the international guests around Moscow, the halls of the Victory Museum, the Museum Complex of RSUH, the campus of the Institute of History and Archives, and the Museum-Workshop “3DaVinci.”

The Summer Multidisciplinary University is held to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education, science, and economic development between Russia and the states of Africa within the framework of the Consortium “Russian–African Network University” (RAFU) with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
