In early December 2025, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) and Tambov State Technical University (TSTU) participated in the RAFU delegationʼs visit to Algeria. The visit included visits to leading universities and higher education institutions in the Algerian capital, which are already members of the RAFU consortium.

The delegationʼs first working visit was to the University of Science and Technology of Ouari Bouamediene (USTHB), which is both a member of RAFU and a partner of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU).

During the meeting with the university management, negotiations were held on the implementation of a joint program with SPbPU. Colleagues from SPbPU, Maxim Zalivsky, head of the RAFU project office, and Tatiana Sytnikova, Deputy Head of the International Education Department at SPbPU, and USTHB agreed on the academic content of the joint masterʼs program in the field of 15.04.05 Design and Technological Support of Mechanical Engineering Production (15.04.05_05 Quality Assurance of Technological Processes in Mechanical Engineering). An analysis of the program implementation procedure and a schedule reconciliation were also carried out, and consultations with potential program participants took place. Colleagues held a working meeting with the teaching staff involved in the implementation of this joint program.

The key event of the program was a round table discussion on «Prospects for Educational and Scientific Cooperation between Russian and Algerian Universities.» Participants discussed mechanisms for cooperation, including academic exchanges, joint research projects, and the development of educational programs.

At the meeting, TSTU presented its university and main educational programs to its Algerian colleagues. During the visit, an official meeting was held between TSTU Rector Mikhail Krasnyansky and Vice Rector for International Affairs Elena Mishchenko with the leadership of the Algerian university, during which the Russian representatives familiarized themselves with the infrastructure, educational, and research capabilities of Algeriaʼs leading engineering university. The Russian delegation familiarized themselves with the resource capabilities of the laboratory and research center of the University of Science and Technology of Ouari Bouamediene (USTHB).

This was followed by working visits to the National Polytechnic School of Algeria and the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of Algeria, where presentations were given on the opportunities offered by SPbPU and TSTU. Guests from Russia were given tours of the campus and research laboratories.

«The latest visit by the RAFU delegation to Algeria was of a working nature and became important in the implementation of specific projects and agreements between the parties, confirming the mutual interest of Russia and Algeria in joint cooperation in the field of engineering education, nanotechnology, joint scientific research, and the implementation of joint educational programs,» said Maxim Zalivsky, head of the RAFU project office.

During the visit, TSTU signed memoranda of cooperation with the National Polytechnic School of Algeria and the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of Algeria.

«The visit to Algeria clearly confirms the effectiveness of the cooperation models we are developing within the framework of RAFU. The successful implementation of our educational program for African universities demonstrates the high demand for Russian expertise and creates a solid foundation for long-term partnership. Direct dialogue with the leadership of leading universities, such as the National Polytechnic School of Algeria, allows us to build specific and mutually beneficial projects,»said Elena Mishchenko, Vice Rector for International Affairs at TSTU.

Following the meeting, the parties summarized the results of their current work and identified strategic directions for further development of cooperation within the framework of the Russian-African Network University consortium. The agreements reached will lay the foundation for the implementation of new bilateral projects.
