A meeting was held at the Russian House in Cairo to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the Nile River's course alteration during the construction of the Aswan Dam, one of the largest hydraulic engineering projects of the 20th century. The organizers of the event were the Association of Aswan Dam Builders and the Society of Egyptian-Russian Friendship.
The meeting was attended by Ibrahim Kamel, head of the Society of Egyptian-Russian Friendship; Sabri al-Ashmawi, chairman of the Association of Aswan Dam Builders; Denis Bronnikov, chief expert of the Rossotrudnichestvo representation in Egypt; engineers who were directly involved in the construction; and representatives of the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots in Egypt. Sherif GED, Secretary General of the Society of Egyptian-Russian Friendship, hosted the event.
Professor Abbas Sharaki from Cairo University delivered a lecture on the significance of the Aswan Hydroelectric Complex and the role of the Soviet Union in its construction. Participants were also presented with rare archival photographs documenting the stages of the dam's construction.
