From August 18 to 24, 2024, the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) hosted the Summer Multidisciplinary University “Russia-Africa”.

During the training, the students participating in the project gained relevant knowledge in the development of intercultural dialog between Russia and Africa and mastered media technologies to promote sustainable tourism.

The training at the Russia-Africa Summer University took place on two educational tracks, such as “Intercultural Dialogue: Russia-Africa” and “Media Technologies for Promoting Sustainable Tourism”.

The participants of the educational project from Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Mali, Niger, Sudan, Uganda, and Sudan noted that RSUH professors gave them a great opportunity to gain new professional knowledge that will help them in their further studies.

During 6 days, the project participants not only listened to informative lectures and master classes but also got acquainted with the culture and traditions of Russia.

The cultural and historical track allowed the Summer University participants to get to know Moscow better and visit its sights.

The sightseeing tours around the capital, the Museum Center of Russian State University, the 3DaVinci Workshop Museum, the building of the Historical and Archival Institute of Russian State University on Nikolskaya Street, and the Museum of Cosmonautics at VDNKh complemented the impressions of the specialists from Africa and helped them to fully experience the huge historical and cultural heritage of Russia.

The work of the Russia-Africa Summer Multidisciplinary University ended with a gala event at the Russian State University for the Humanities. The participants of the educational project received certificates and congratulations on acquiring new relevant knowledge from P. P. Shkarenkov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of RSUH, and O. V. Trofimova, Head of the Department of International Relations of RSUH.

“I believe that this is one of the most remarkable intensive school projects. In my opinion, we are preparing our students for a very important mission—to become people's ambassadors of Russia—because people's diplomacy and soft power are something that is very important now to promote cooperation in the world. For Russia, Africa has been a strategic partner for many decades; here you need personal contact, inclusion in the educational environment, and admiration for the culture, education, and knowledge that Russia has to offer. When we interact with them, we tell them about our culture,” said Maria Alexandrovna Gordeeva, Head of the Chair of Culture of Peace and Democracy (UNESCO), Head of the enlarged group of specialties ‘Service and Tourism’ at RSUH.
