The first session of the Joint Russian-Tanzanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation took place in Tanzania. As part of this event, a Russian-Tanzanian inter-university meeting was held at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (Russian House) in Tanzania. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to discuss current issues related to the development of cooperation between Russian and Tanzanian universities. The Russian Ministry of Education and Science places great importance on strengthening educational collaboration with Tanzania. Notably, as part of preparations for training national personnel in Tanzania for the 2024–2025 academic year, 90 spots have been allocated within the quota of the Russian Government for Tanzanian citizens to study at Russian institutions of higher education.

On the Tanzanian side, participants included representatives from the University of Dodoma, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU), and the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA).
On the Russian side, active participants included representatives from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Sevastopol State University, Samara State Technical University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Russian State University for the Humanities, and Chechen State University named after A. A. Kadyrov.

The Russian participants shared information about their universities, programs for training professional personnel, and academic exchange programs.

The RAFU Consortium—Russia's flagship project by the Ministry of Education and Science to create a unified Russian-African educational space—was represented at the meeting with Tanzanian universities by Maxim Zalyvsky, head of the Consortium's project office.

Zalyvsky reported that the Consortium currently includes over 80 Russian universities and more than 30 African organizations from 13 countries. Tanzanian colleagues were introduced to the Consortium's main event: the *Summer Multidisciplinary University*, through which, this year, 19 Russian universities offered educational programs to African students in diverse fields such as geology and meteorology, ecology and sustainable development, computer science and artificial intelligence, medical and biotechnologies, agriculture and water resource management, as well as Russian language, culture, and traditions.

As a result of the Russian-Tanzanian inter-university meeting, participating Russian universities signed cooperation agreements with Tanzanian universities. Tumaini University and the Tanzanian Association of Alumni of Soviet and Russian Universities also signed memorandums to join the RAFU Consortium.

Additionally, RAFU universities representatives participated in the opening ceremony of an exhibition at the Russian Center for Science and Culture, dedicated to the USSR's contributions to the liberation of African peoples from colonial oppression.
