The LMU on cardiovascular diseases took place at UNN

The Summer Multidisciplinary University (LMU) "Diagnostics, Modeling, and Monitoring of Pathophysiological Processes in Cardiovascular Pathology" was held at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. It was held in the Nizhny Novgorod region for the second time as part of the "Summer Multidisciplinary University" project of the Russian-African Network University (RAFU) with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

"The opening of an international summer university on cardiovascular pathology at UNN, with 15 students from eight African countries participating, is a striking example of the successful cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and Africa. Our region actively interacts with more than 20 countries on the continent, and more than 1,000 African students choose Nizhny Novgorod universities for their studies every year. I am confident that this summer school will be an important step in the development of scientific and educational ties, promoting the exchange of experience and strengthening friendly relations between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and African countries," said Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

"This summer university is the result of international trust and scientific partnership. Over two weeks of training, participants will acquire skills that they can apply in laboratory, clinical, and scientific practice in their home countries. In addition, they will gain cultural knowledge, go on many excursions, and learn about life and customs in our region. Such a project allows us to combine the efforts of our countries and train qualified specialists. We are proud of the opportunity to share our experience, methods, and laboratory facilities. It is this approach, through dialogue and practice, that gives rise to truly effective solutions. We believe that the more competent specialists we have, the greater the chances for a healthy future for millions of people,"emphasized Oleg Trofimov, Rector of UNN.

Participants in the LMU program include 15 international students (current students and applicants) from eight African countries: Benin, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Madagascar, Nigeria, Sudan, and South Africa.

According to Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Activities and Networking at UNN, Lobachevsky University is a member of the Russian-African Network University, which brings together more than 100 universities in Russia and Africa and was created with the aim of forming a single scientific and educational space.

"Our university has been a member of RAFU for several years, and today we are opening the second Summer Multidisciplinary University of the Russian-African Network University. It is held at our university and aims to develop cooperation in the field of education and science between Russian universities and countries on the African continent. These two weeks will give us the opportunity to showcase the educational and scientific potential of Lobachevsky University and show participants the city and region. During this time, students will be able to improve their knowledge of the Russian language, gain new professional skills, and learn more about Russia, Nizhny Novgorod, and its unique character," said Alexander Bedny.

Participants in the summer university enjoyed a packed educational program over two weeks. Classes were held at the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine (IBBM) at Lobachevsky University in Nizhny Novgorod. The academic program is designed to provide foreign students with practical skills and abilities that can be used in scientific, laboratory, and clinical work related to the early diagnosis and study of the mechanisms of cardiovascular disease development.

"The Summer Multidisciplinary University is a unique opportunity for students to gain interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills that are applicable in both scientific and clinical practice. Our program is valuable precisely because it combines scientific components with practical classes that allow students to master the design of scientific experiments, the analysis of experimental data, and methods of clinical laboratory and functional diagnostics. And considering that cardiovascular disease is one of the three global health problems, along with cancer and diabetes, the relevance of this school is international in nature and significant for absolutely everyone." – said Anna Deryugina, head of the Department of Physiology and Anatomy at the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine at UNN.

"In addition to lectures and workshops, the educational program for students includes Russian language classes, which help foreign students immerse themselves more deeply in Russian culture and improve interaction between program participants,"said Nailya Bakhtiyarova, head of the Center for Educational Programs for Foreign Citizens at Lobachevsky University. "Upon completion of this program, all participants will receive certificates. There is also a cultural component, during which guests will get acquainted with the sights of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The program includes visits to the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the Shchelokovsky Khutor Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve, a Christmas tree toy factory, and other iconic places, as well as the oldest city in our region, Gorodets. It is extremely important for students to get acquainted with the sights in order to better understand the Russian language, traditions, and culture,"she emphasized.
