The international school “Smart Engineering: From Shared Knowledge to Shared Vision," attended by 21 students from eight African countries, was held at Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University from September 16 to 22.
Maxim Zalyvsky, Head of the Project Office of the Russian-African Network University, noted at the opening of the school that SAFU was one of the 9 universities that won the competition to organize an international event within the framework of the “RAFU Summer Multidisciplinary University.”. The school included topics relevant to both the Arctic and Africa: extraction of mineral resources, risk management in environmental and industrial safety, industrial construction, and renewable energy sources.
Oleg Rusinov, Minister of Education of the Arkhangelsk region, emphasized that the international school was one of the important steps to train personnel for the future of Russia and Africa.
The school “Smart Engineering: From Shared Knowledge to Shared Vision” was held for a week with the support of Severalmaz and the Sozvezvedie Association. The training program included a lecture block, interactive classes, project work on solving cases from industrial partners, visits to innovation and technology centers, regional production facilities, and laboratories of SAFU, as well as cultural and educational events.
The theory was necessarily accompanied by practice: a lecture on diamond mining was followed by a trip to the field of Severalmaz JSC, classes on oil and master classes with building a digital model of oil field development and solving practical cases accompanied gas projects. The knowledge gained from regional experts' reports on the Arkhangelsk region's tourism potential was supplemented by personal impressions in regional museums and at the international festival of friendship and cultures of different countries, “Welcome to Pomorie."
As the participant of the international school, Alex Fuatia, noted, he was pleasantly surprised by the very high level of preparation for this event. It was the first time he conducted experiments on building a digital model of deposits and the first time he saw how and what should be done to get diamonds, oil, and gas.
I am studying in the direction of “Oil and Gas Engineering.”. I really liked the way the international school was held; many thanks to the organizers. Especially useful for me was a master class on using the program tNavigator, which allows you to create geological and dynamic models of oil and gas fields. I learned a lot. It is a great honor for me to be in SAFU, to meet unique people from different countries and different universities,” Ndiae Saliu (Senegal), a student of the People's Friendship University of Russia, shared his impressions after the official ceremony of awarding certificates of participation in the international school.
